Lucy began her career working with orthopedic injuries in an outpatient hand clinic in Queens. After moving to Connecticut to help take care of her mother, who had had a bad fall injuring her shoulder, she started work in post-acute care, providing therapeutic services for patients with Parkinson's disease, cancer, respiratory diseases, orthopedic issues, residual limbs and prosthetics, lymphedema and wound care, as well as patients recovering from strokes, including cognitive rehabilitation.
Lucy's treatment protocols include Neurological Developmental Treatment (NDT); which is a technique that facilitates re-education of the neuromuscular system, based on the neuroplasticity of the brain; Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) which facilitates neuromuscular control and coordination; Yoga for balance and core strengthening, all of which are aimed at improving function and quality of life.
As a Certified Lymphedema Therapist, she uses the Gold Standard of Lymphedema Treatment, a program, known as Complete Decongestive Therapy. This includes manual movement of lymphatic fluid away from the injured area to a more healthy area, preventative strategies to avoid worsening of the disease and choosing easy to use compression garments.
As a Certified Yoga Instructor and Exercise Specialist, Lucy incorporates innovative and functional movement into all of her therapeutic exercises.
Lucy is a graduate from Hofstra University, SCCC, and The Academy of Lymphatic Studies.
